Songs To Help You Push Through

If you know me or have read any of my past articles, you know that I have days when I’m totally in my own head, where my calm, positive rationality is being stomped on by fear, anxiety, and uncertainty of how to manage myself. I’ve definitely felt much more level lately, confident and secure that everything is going to work out. Still, I have times (usually in the morning) where some negativity creeps in and tries to take over.

This week’s song recently made a reappearance in my life on one of my morning drives. At first, I thought, aw man, I love this song! After listening a little more deeply, I was left feeling inspired.

“Drive” has always been a pretty melancholy song for me. I don’t know if it’s the melody and minor chords, or if it simply brings me back to my teenage years when melancholy was part of my everyday journey towards self-discovery (like many of us, I’m sure). But if you listen more closely, the lyrics are actually really empowering— or at least they are to me!

It can be hard to trust that everything in your life is happening the way it should and easy to let fear of uncertainty take over, instead of taking control of how we feel and what we do. This song sings just to that:

Sometimes I feel the fear of uncertainty stinging clear
And I can’t help but ask myself
how much I let the fear take the wheel and steer…

Lately I am beginning to find that I should be the one behind the wheel.

In case that doesn’t make you ponder enough, the chorus comes in and offers an incredible message to try and live by:

Whatever tomorrow brings I’ll be there,
with open arms and open eyes.

Imagine that. Imagine going into each new day with no fear of uncertainty. No anxiety about what may or may not happen, and being open to embracing whatever it is that comes our way.

But what if bad things come our way? you may be thinking. Well, there’s no doubt that they will at times, but being fearful won’t change the course of what’s to come. In fact, being fearful could actually bring more negativity our way (if you believe in manifestation and the power of intention).

Of course, there’s no way I’ll be perfect at this practice, but it was nice to have this song present itself in a new way. It kind of found me and, dare I say, my openness to it might have made all the difference. It’s all about keeping things in drive and keeping ourselves moving forward, regardless of fear or uncertainty.
